We have a new header, which you can see above. Or below, if you are on Google Reader or something...
And, more importantly, Baby Gage No. 2 is on their way.
Surprise!
Did you guess this was the reason for the new header? I'll bet some of you suspected. You smarty pants. I didn't have to find a new "me" after all, as it turns out that the pregnant lady is still very symbolic of, well, me! (I'll still be messing with some of the dimensions for a bit, but couldn't wait anymore!)
This is another of the "distractions" that has been keeping me from blogging as regularly lately, or really doing anything as regularly lately, really.
One, it was super, super hard not to slip up and mention, you know, BEING PREGNANT, in recent posts. Especially since this was a surprise to everyone involved!
Two, some posts got put on hold (like Ev's 12 month letter) because I couldn't leave out that we told her she was going to be a big sister!
Three, let me tell you - as much as I was exhausted while pregnant the first time around? Running after a one year old while doing it is insane. I have been so, so tired and am really ready for that second trimester peak of energy to surge in and make things great again.
Speaking of, as of Sunday I was officially 13 weeks along and due February 10th. Squee!
I have been doing "secret" blogs having to do with this pregnancy and baby all along, so I will be publishing those tomorrow, when they really happened, along with a special label link so that you can read 'em all without digging back through old posts and such.
The "official" announcement is going up on Facebook today, along with this photo...
Evelyn Rae is one year old and I am 13 weeks, 5 day along with No. 2 (or whatever nickname we finally settle on)
...and HOLY EXCITEMENT! I am having a baby!

Psyched you out.

13 weeks
Nausea
THE WORST it has been. Seriously. I still haven't thrown up, thank goodness, but now it is in the morning and at night. WHAT the heck. I need this to be done. Now. I just joked with the ladies at our 12 week screen today (done a little late because of a cancelled business trip the hubs originally had scheduled).

Skin
Getting better, maybe? I hope so. Le sigh. At least I don't have fat face yet.
Weight/Clothes
Wore my first belly band this week. Just because the button style couldn't handle the hairband trick though, and things still button, they are just uncomfortable by the end of the day.

I am also gaining weight differently. Like, I have only gained 6.8 pounds overall, but it is sort of all around my body instead of just up front, if that makes sense. Puffiness on my hips - not used to that. Lame.
Cravings/Aversions
Ugh. Food. Coconut water, and strangely enough, SlimFast shakes have been my friends. NO, I am NOT TRYING TO DIET. Let's get that straight, that is crazy talk. But, something about those shakes helps to coat my stomach and settle the nausea. Anything that works is a-ok in my book.
Cramps/Pain
Eh. Weird stuff. Random little things that feel like movement, but aren't - probably organs moving and stuff. No movement yet, and apparently not for a while as I just found out at this ultrasound that my placenta is square in the front of my uterus. Lame-o.

Sleeping
Oy. Vivid dreams are BACK. Weird stuff. Weird, weird stuff.
Heartburn
None this week.
The Girls
Chillin'.
New this time around
The lightheadedness is for real. This week while walking around Target with Ev in the cart, I had to steer into a makeup aisle and sit down on the edge of the bottom display shelf for a minute.
Why the makeup aisle? Because it is heavily populated with women and I actually thought, "Surely, someone here would be smart enough to pick up my baby out of the cart and try to rouse me should I actually pass out." I didn't so that's good. The doc says to keep her informed, but if I am drinking tons of water, check, and eating a good amount of food, check, then I should be fine here in a bit.
Oh yeah, this again.
The hair growth, like everywhere. I have shaved my legs like daily. This is ridiculous, come on fall.
Mental State
Doing well, especially after everything looked a-ok at our screening appointment today. A and I are trying to figure out a whole bunch of stuff, like the fact that we may in fact find out the sex of this baby in advance - eek! - and if we do, and it's a girl - what's her name? and if it's a boy - what about the whole circumcision thing? I won't say who is on which side of the debate, but it is going to need to be a discussion.
Also, we took the announcement photo yesterday! Eeek! We are going to tell people this week!
Evelyn Rae is one year old, and I am 13 weeks along with Ferris
... and I am sort of nervous to tell "the world" and I don't know why!
Living it up!
Friends - you may be asking, where the eff has Courtney been over the last few weeks? These blog updates are sporadic and random.
Well, here is your answer, in part.
Husband is on Shore Duty. And not just is he on SD, but the last few weeks have been the epitome of flexibility and random time off.
Just to explain a little further - when someone in the Navy is on "Sea Duty" that is when they are attached to a ship, or a squadron or some other form of thing that goes to sea. Hence the name. When this happens is when those same people go on deployment, have to stand watch, etc. In short - lot's of time away from family.
Shore Duty, on the other hand is when those people are assigned to commands on the shore. Which generally means a much more 9-5 schedule, no standing duty, and lots more time with family. Well, these last few weeks have had LOTS of time for my dear husband to be home, for some unknown reason. All these random occurrences just seemed to collide all together.
So, we have been taking advantage. Today, for example, was the family picnic for the command. Naturally, EVERYONE GOT THE DAY OFF. What?! Craziness, right? But awesome craziness.
We will eventually go back to Sea Duty. And when that day comes, I want to know that we took full advantage of making up for all those missed events by the random days of fun during Shore Duty that we could.
It seems that tomorrow will really kick off things being back to normal and our whirlwind of fun, after vacation no less, will come to an end.
And then I will be back for reals.
Evelyn Rae is almost 13 months old
...and man, does that girl have an opinion about things all of a sudden.

Happy August?
Can anyone else believe that today is August first? I can't. SUMMER! Where are you going?! Wah.
Also, it is only 8:30 and so far my day has gone like this:
Baby wakes unusually early at 4:55 am. Of course, because I stayed up to watch the women get the gold medal in gymnastics last night, logic would only follow that she would be an extra early bird today. Trying to get her to go back down is NOT working, and I am delirious, so I bring her back with me.
I stave off actually getting out of bed by trying to cuddle with baby, much to husband's discontent as baby stretches out to lay on top of his face. He wisely decides to get up and head to work, kissing us both goodbye.
Manage to keep baby in bed with an episode of Chloe's Closet (british cartoon kids are so cute!) and a few of her favorite crackers. I know, I know, bad mommy giving her food in bed. Whatevs y'all. Iwas am TIRED.
Try to keep dog away from scarfing down crackers from baby's supply.
Finally give up and realize that no more sleep or relaxing is coming my way when baby continually tries to dive off side of bed, and when placed on the floor continually tries to climb back up and get frustrated. ("I've already seen this episode of Chloe, Momma"...she seemed to say.)
Start breakfast procedure.
Settle baby down with some of her favorite things from the last few days, strawberries. (Yay for no allergies) They are the last three and look really good, and I also really like strawberries, but being the martyr, ahem, good mother that I am, I slice them up for a nutritious start to breakfast for my baby.
She immediately dumps them onto the floor, where the dog scarfs them.
I sigh and decide I will in fact need real coffee today and pull out the big guns while baby cries because she has no food while her eggs are cooling. I would give her some of her favorite crackers, but she ate them all this morning. Perfect. Corn Chex will do in a pinch.
Cue eggs and happy baby.
Suddenly baby is unhappy with eggs, for no apparent reason.
I dig out her new fork, and Oh! Look! New shiny fun thing! Baby is happy again, and settles down to spear eggs with new shiny fun thing.
Patting myself on the back, I give her some veggies and decide it is safe to run to the bathroom quickly.
As I come back, literally 30 seconds later, I almost fall to my death because the floor has suddenly become the slip and slide my husband has asked for all summer.
After my initial shock and momentary freak out that the washing machine is acting up, I investigate and realize that Evelyn has lobbed a brussel sprout into the air, only to fall into the dog's water bowl. The dog then immediately flips his bowl over in search of said sprout.
So, clearly, we are off to a great start today! I planned on FINALLY getting my photos uploaded for Ev's 12 month update today...I know, I know. Late again. But, this is my day, so maybe tomorrow.
I think it's time to hit the reset button, throw some clothes on this baby and head to Target for some Starbucks, perusing, and most importantly, more crackers.
Evelyn Rae is twelve months old
...and tomorrow is my birthday. Cross your fingers that my day will be slightly better and/or I wake up with an unwaveringly great attitude. That's the traditional gift for a 28 year old, right?

Warning: There may be whining ahead. Please laugh. In retrospect, I know I will.

One a Day
Welp, here marks another notch in the "my baby is growing up and becoming a toddler" belt.
We are slowly transitioning to the one nap a day.
I think.
This weekend she acted all TOTALLY READY and into it.
Yesterday? Girl took two two hour naps. I legit had to wake her up in the afternoon so she wouldn't sleep too long and then never go down at bedtime. She was not.happy.with.me.
Can you blame her? I can get straight MEAN when people wake me up before I am ready.
This morning she was going STRONG, not rubbing her eyes, laughing and gigging when I tickled her, playing, all of it.
Then all of a sudden, she came over to me, climbed up on my lap, yanked on my shirt like she wanted to nurse and was out. That was 10:45. Granted, she had been up since 6.
Not quite late enough for a one a day nap though, especially because we got a good sized breakfast in before hand and a snack of her favorite crackers, but no lunch. Now I have freshened up on all my transition techniques after a good pep talk from some Facebook friends that, indeed, people do transition their babies to one a days around this age, and I know that this will be a bit of a process. Cross your fingers for us!
Oh, sleep.
It seems to come so naturally as an adult. Who knew there was so much teaching involved with babies? And, erm, toddlers? Oy. I cannot believe my baby is becoming a toddler.
Excuse me while I go cry.
Evelyn Rae is twelve months old
...and it always seems to be the strangest milestones that get to me.
Like how I could put her hair in pigtails the other day. ACK! She looked like a LITTLE GIRL.
